Cllr John Rudge highly commended in BBC Make a Difference Awards

Local Liberal Democrat John Rudge has received a Highly Commended award at the BBC Radio Hereford & Worcester Make a Difference Awards, in recognition of his environmental work in Warndon Villages.

John was one of four finalists shortlisted in the Environmental Award category.

The recognition follows John’s work alongside local volunteers to restore one of Warndon Villages’ neglected ponds. Their practical efforts have helped wildlife return to the area and inspired volunteers to begin work on another of the community’s many neglected ponds.

Councillor Sarah Murray said:

“This recognition could not be more deserved. John is one of those people who sees something that needs doing, brings people together and gets stuck in.

“The restoration of the pond has made a visible difference, not only by bringing wildlife back but by inspiring local people to tackle another neglected pond nearby.

“John works incredibly hard for Warndon Villages throughout the year, without seeking recognition or the limelight. I am immensely proud to work alongside him and delighted that his contribution—and that of the brilliant volunteers working with him—has been recognised by the BBC.”

John Rudge said:

“I am delighted to receive this recognition, but restoring the pond has been a real team effort. I want to thank every volunteer who has given their time and energy to help bring it back to life.

“Seeing wildlife return has made all the hard work worthwhile. It is particularly encouraging that the project has inspired people to start work on another neglected pond in Warndon Villages. It shows what residents can achieve when we come together and take practical action.”
