Have Your Say on the Future of Local Representation in Worcester
Many residents have been asking questions about the process for deciding whether Worcester should have a town or parish council, so we at WLD thought it would be helpful to explain what happens next and, most importantly, how you can make your voice heard.
Worcester City Council is now undertaking a public consultation on options for the future of local representation in the city. This is an important discussion about how communities in Worcester are represented and how local decisions are made.
The process will take place in stages:
Stage 1: The Council is currently gathering residents' views through a public consultation on the different options for a town or parish council for Worcester.
July 2026: A report summarising the feedback received during this first stage will be presented to Full Council.
Stage 2: It is anticipated that the Council will then agree one or more specific options to take forward to a second round of public consultation.
November 2026: Following that further consultation, Full Council is expected to make a final decision.
Whatever your views on the issue, we strongly encourage you to get involved.
Please keep an eye on the Worcester City Council website for details of consultations and the agendas for upcoming meetings. If you would like to speak at a council meeting, contact one of your local councillors and ask to be added to the public speaker list for the relevant meeting. There are opportunities for residents to address councillors directly before decisions are made.
If speaking at a meeting is not for you, you can still have your views represented. Write to your ward councillors and let them know what you think. Councillors are elected to represent their communities, and hearing from residents helps us ensure that the full range of views is reflected in the debate and decision-making process.

Whether you support the creation of a town or parish council, oppose it, or simply want more information before making up your mind, please take the time to engage with the process.
This decision will shape local democracy in Worcester for years to come. The more people who take part, the stronger and more representative the final decision will be.
Please don't assume that decisions have already been made. This is a genuine consultation process, and councillors can only represent the views of their residents if they hear from them. If you have an opinion, make sure you share it.
