Residents in Claines are set to benefit from action led by Worcester Liberal Democrat Councillor Mel Allcott following ongoing concerns about unsafe parking near a local car dealership.

Concerns have been raised repeatedly about vehicles linked to the Listers SEAT and Cupra dealership on Ombersley Road being parked on surrounding roads and pavements. Residents say this has made everyday driving and parking increasingly difficult, particularly near the entrance to the Co-op in Claines and the junction with Colin Road.

Councillor Mel Allcott, who represents Claines on Worcester City Council, has been leading efforts to resolve the issue after receiving numerous complaints and witnessing the situation firsthand.

Cllr Allcott said:

“I have understandably received numerous reports about this and I have seen for myself how unsafe it can be. Residents should not have to put up with this kind of disruption on their doorstep.”

Despite raising concerns directly with the dealership previously, the problem has persisted. In response, Cllr Allcott has worked with Worcestershire Highways and the county council’s traffic regulation team to bring forward a formal solution.

A new Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) has now been drafted, which will introduce additional double yellow lines around the site to prevent dangerous and inconsiderate parking.

Cllr Allcott added:

“Other garages manage to keep their vehicles on site, and there is no excuse for cars overspilling onto pavements and road junctions. These measures will help restore safety and fairness for residents.”

Once implemented, the new restrictions will be actively enforced, ensuring that vehicles parked illegally are ticketed.

The proposals are expected to go out for public consultation in April, with the full legal process likely to take between nine and twelve months to complete.

In the meantime, Cllr Allcott is urging the dealership to act responsibly and consider the impact on local residents.

This issue was also highlighted in the Worcester News on 22 March, where Cllr Allcott’s efforts to tackle the problem were featured.
