Liberal Democrat councillor renews call for progress on Ombersley Road parking concerns following serious incident

Liberal Democrat Councillor Mel Allcott has renewed her call for progress on long-standing parking concerns around Ombersley Road after residents contacted her following a serious road traffic incident near the Seat Dealership. 

Cllr Allcott stressed that the cause of the collision is a matter for the police investigation and urged people not to speculate.

She said “First and foremost, my thoughts are with everyone affected by today’s incident, and I wish those involved a full recovery.

“Following today’s incident, a number of residents have been in touch asking me to once again press for action on the long-standing parking concerns in this area, particularly the introduction of double yellow lines.

“At this stage, we simply do not know the circumstances of the collision, and it is important that nobody speculates while the police carry out their investigation.

“However, residents have been raising concerns with me for well over a year about vehicles being parked on Ombersley Road and surrounding roads, including Colin Road, Leslie Avenue, Dorothy Crescent and Grange Avenue. They have told me they are concerned about visibility and road safety on what is already a very busy route.

“I have repeatedly raised these concerns with Worcestershire County Council’s Highways team and have been pushing for double yellow lines and other appropriate parking measures. Unfortunately, the process has been dragging on for far too long.

“If the police investigation concludes that parking is a contributing factor, then I hope Worcestershire County Council will move quickly to implement the appropriate measures. Residents have consistently raised these concerns, and they deserve to know they are being taken seriously.”

Cllr Allcott confirmed she has again contacted Worcestershire County Council’s Highways team following today’s incident and will continue working with residents and the relevant authorities to press for measures that improve road safety in the area.
