Mel Allcott selected as Liberal Democrat candidate for Worcester

Cllr Mel Allcott has been selected as the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Worcester, securing 80% of the vote from local Liberal Democrat members.

Mel is currently Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care at Worcestershire County Council and Co-Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on Worcester City Council.

She also served as Mayor of Worcester in 2024–25, with the theme “Youth Matters”, raising more than £22,000 for Perdiswell Young People’s Leisure Club during her mayoral year.

Speaking after her selection, Cllr Allcott said:

“I’m delighted and honoured to have been selected. I’m proud of the work I’ve done representing residents at both City and County level, and that experience has given me a strong understanding of the issues facing people across Worcester.

“As Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, I see every day the pressures facing families, carers and our public services. I want to take that practical, local experience to Parliament and make sure Worcester’s voice is heard.

“Politics is becoming increasingly polarised, with louder voices on both the far left and the far right. I believe people deserve a positive, centrist alternative – one focused on fairness, freedom, opportunity and strong local communities.

“The next General Election will be a real opportunity for Worcester to have its voice heard. I want to offer residents a candidate who knows the city, understands the challenges people face and will always put Worcester first.

“My priority now is simple: to listen, to work hard and to make sure Worcester has a strong voice nationally.”
