Worcester Councillor Selected for Prestigious UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme

Cllr Sarah Murray

Worcester City Councillor Sarah Murray has been selected to take part in the highly competitive UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme in February 2026.

The programme, run by the UK Parliament Education and Engagement Service, brings together educators from across the UK for an intensive residential course at Westminster. Participants gain first-hand insight into how Parliament works and develop new approaches for helping young people understand democracy, representation and civic participation.

Alongside her work as a councillor for St Nicholas Ward, Sarah teaches in alternative provision in Hereford, supporting some of the most vulnerable young people in education. Her dual role places her in a unique position to connect students with real democratic processes and encourage active citizenship.

Sarah said:

“I’m delighted to have been offered a place. Many young people feel disconnected from politics, yet the decisions made in Parliament shape every part of their lives. This programme will give me the tools to help them understand that their voices matter and that they can play an active role in our democracy.”

As part of the three-day programme, participants will meet members of both Houses of Parliament, attend workshops with parliamentary staff, and explore how to bring democracy to life in schools and community settings.

Sarah plans to use the experience to develop workshops, debates and resources for young people, and to strengthen links between local schools, councillors and MPs. Her aim is to ensure that young people in both Worcester and Hereford, particularly those who feel unheard, gain the confidence and knowledge to participate fully in democratic life.

“Youth voice is incredibly important,” she added. “By helping young people build confidence, communication skills and a sense of agency, we support not only their personal development but their future life chances.”

The UK Parliament Teacher Ambassador Programme will take place in Westminster in February 2026.
